Rating tires may be one of the more difficult tasks to perform among all consumer products. Any opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, since a reviewer's real-world experience with a tire will vary by car, climate (rain and snow), driving style, existing tire condition, etc. A better way to evaluate a tire is to consider the ratings of many consumers over hundreds of thousands of miles driven. We look at ratings from major tire retailers, tire manufacturers, as well as independent sources such as Consumer Reports. We also keep an eye on NHTSA / DOT tire recalls.
We also realize that the majority of drivers are price sensitive, and we try to pick a "best value" choice in each category that performs nearly as well as the leader. There are also many generic or off-brand tires nowadays, and we have been adding pages with some information on those tires (e.g., Douglas, Milestar).
